As an incentive to enter these events Supersprint offered a 10% discount for any group of 10 WSTC members.
The offer is still valid (although it will be in the form of a refund rather than entry discount) so if you did this event and want to take advantage of this offer please send me an email on peterjwhyte at gmail dot com and I will group you in lots of 10 and send you instructions about what to do in order to claim your refund.
Even if you are not fussed about claiming it at least get me your name so you can make up the numbers for those that are - remember we need groups of 10!

The Sacred Heart Mission in St Kilda do a lot for homeless people. Not just giving them a handout but giving them a future. They do this through OUR sport, Triathlon. A group of 20 or so underprivileged kids is going through their first tri on April 1st and they are in desperate need of stuff like old used goggles, bathers, tri shorts, tops, runners - even bikes and wetsuits to help get them through.

Our club WSTC is holding a “triathlon stuff” drive at our next race (this labour day Monday) and anything they don’t or can’t use will be sold through their op shop to make money to still further their cause. Note this is not a WSTC initiative, we are simply helping out and would invite anyone else to do so also in whatever way or form they can.

The man running the show is WSTC’s very own Brian Millet and his contact details are:

If you doubt the potential for triathlon to change lives, please read this:

I got involved in the first sacred Heart mission triathlon in 2009. We had 12 people all up competing in the Brooks triathlon down on the St.kilda foreshore . Some were staff members and some were people who use the mission services. I was homeless at the time and was sleeping rough in the shed at Catani gardens which was about 100m from the Triathlon start ( that was the only good thing about sleeping rough being so close to the start line! ) I was 40kgs overweight and my health was suffering. With no vision of the future and no positive prospects around the corner I embarked on the challenge of competing in the triathlon which was 300m swim, 10km ride, and 3 km run. It was a massive task.

At the time I was playing cricket with the Hearts cricket team and I was enjoying that but I knew the triathlon would be a lot harder than playing cricket “ IS IT POSSIBLE “ was what I was asking myself because I was so out of shape. We started training 6 weeks out from the triathlon. We had sessions down at PCYC doing bike riding and treadmill running. It was really tough at the start and I really doubted my ability to continue to train but I found that I had other people around me that were training for the same event . The support I received from the coaches and volunteers was fantastic and they encouraged me to hang in their.

Race day came around really fast and I really enjoyed the race and the atmosphere was amazing. I struggled through the swim and had to dog paddle some of the way but got through it. Bike riding was my strength and l passed many on the ride. The run was tough but I was determined to get to the finish. Crossing that finish line I had an overwhelming feeling of achievement and I was so happy that I took on the challenge!!

When I started training I was 117kgs and after the race I was down to 108 kgs . Since that time I have found a place to live and secured a part time job and only last weekend did another triathlon which was a 500m swim, 20km ride and 5 km run. I still had fears about my ability to complete it but I knew I just had to just do it and not listen to that negative voice in my head that talks me out of doing things in my life. I smashed the race and I am still buzzing 2 days later. I am now walking around at 95kgs and am a lot more happier with my life.

If anyone is thinking about doing the Sacred Heart mission Triathlon coming up I would highly recommend you take on the challenge and just “Have a crack”. Your life will be richer from the experience.

Hi everyone. Supersprint have an urgent request for 9 guys that want to be live KM markers at the Sussan’s fun run this Sunday.

Live KM markers stand on a little stand with a t-shirt with the KM marker on it and ring a bell!

They get heaps (whistles etc) from the women and they give feedback on the best km marker.

Supersprint will pay them $75 each or a free Gatorade entry (races 2, 3 , 4 , 5 or 6) to be there from 7.00am to 11.00am. I understand it is a fun job!

They apologize for the short notice but it would be great if they can get a few!

If you would like to help them out let me know via FB, email (peterjwhyte at gmail dot com) or phone 0418 334 800 and I will hook you up.

Thanks

Peter

As you probably already know, the tesults are up for Race 1.

And this is a good opporuntity to thank Gary Pertot for his awesome contribution to the club.

Gary has taken on the enormous task of not only getting up to speed on what is quite a complex set of equipment and technology, but does the hard yards each week operating it as well.

His efforts on Sunday were outstanding. You may not know it, but the timing gear cannot be put wherever you like - mat placement is a complex puzzle which made the fact that we not only got our race timing, but our splits as well, an amazing achievement - and the results within 24 hours!

Thanks also to everyone else who worked so hard to make Race 1 the success it was - I am very proud to be part of such a great team!
