04 Aug 2011 - WSTC AGM 2011
28th August 10:30am
The Annual General Meeting on 28th August at the Altona beach pavillion at 10.30am. We encourage members to nominate for all committee positions.
attached is the nomination form
Committee_Nomination_Form.pdf
We will be starting the AGM at 10:30 or as close to it as possible given that some people will want to be home at 1pm to Enter Ironman melbourne in an attempt to avoid missing out on entry
02 Aug 2011 - IMPORTANT: Membership Changes + Special Club Clothing Order
Dear Members,
MEMBERSHIP UPDATE AND CLUB CLOTHING
Changes to Annual Membership Period
Over the past couple of years the club has experienced a significant creep in the payment of membership fees. This is principally a result of a previous change in membership period from the annual financial year to 12 months membership from the date payment is made. Unfortunately our web based membership program cannot send automatic reminders to members when their membership is due for renewal. Different renewal dates therefore involves considerable more administration for the club with no additional benefit.
The committee has decided to revert back to an annual membership term based on the financial year, effective immediately. Current annual membership fees will remain unchanged. A standard renewal date for all members will make it easier for members to remember when their membership fees are due and it will also result in a significant reduction in membership administration.
How does this impact on your membership?
The expiry date of your current membership (you can check this via your login at wstc.org.au) determines how you will be impacted. Bearing in mind of course that as long as you do more than two races during the year you are better off than non members.
If you renewed your membership between April – June 2011 your expiry date will automatically become 30 June 2012. If your membership expired before 1 July 2011 and you have not yet renewed as at today’s date you will be required to pay the annual fee and your membership will expire 30 June 2012.
If your membership expires between Jul – Nov 2011 (inclusive) you pay the annual fee There are 5 races during this period, so it is well worth renewing to get cheaper race entry. E.g. If an adult chooses not to renew and does say two races they will pay $45 each race (assume non tri vic), being a total of $90, if they renew they will pay $20 each race plus membership of $55, a total of $95. Therefore as long as a member plans on doing more than 2 of the 5 races they are better off renewing.
If your membership expires after Nov 2011 you pay a reduced membership fee (approx 30% less ) as follows:
$40 adult
$60 family
$22 junior
There are 7 races between Dec - June 30, 2012. It is worth renewing if you plan to do at least two of the 7 races. Using the same example as above 2 x race entry fee would be $90 as opposed to membership of $40 plus $40 (2 x race entry), a total of $80 so still cheaper to be a member.
This reduced membership fee will only be available this financial year, thereafter it will be an annual fee with no pro rata available.
TRI VIC / TA MEMBERSHIP
Just a reminder that Annual subscriptions are now due. Tri Vic/TA have introduced a rebate for clubs whose members are also members of Tri Vic/TA. The
rebate is only available for a short time. If you are a member of Tri Vic/TA can you please update your profile on the website to include your TA membership number or alternatively email me your
number ASAP.
CLUB CLOTHING
With the Shepparton half ironman fast approaching and a huge delegation representing our club, we are looking at placing an order for tri shorts ,tops, trisuits and club hoodies so everyone can be decked out in club gear at the race.
Club clothing currently comes at a significant cost to the club and involves minimum order quantities from suppliers. In light of this we wish to obtain an expression of interest from members who may want to place an order. We are interested in which items you require and what size. This is not a final order, once we have an idea of the size and number of items required we will contact everyone who showed an expression of interest in order for them to confirm their interest and pre pay their order. Prices are expected to be in line with that currently detailed on the website +/- $5.00 per item. Price will be advised once we have an idea of the numbers.
A sizing chart and pictures will be placed on the website for you to view in a couple of days. We will also have some sample sizes available at the club race on 7th August.
We will be accepting registrations of interest up until Monday 15th August.
Please complete the table below and email it to: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address):
by Monday 15th August 2011. Alternatively return the completed form to Del at the club race on Sunday 7th August or reply to the noticeboard post.

19 Apr 2011 - Timers Required
Rob Danaher will not be able to do the timing after June so we are looking for members to learn to run the timing equipment.
There are two parts to the timing:
Running the timing equipment on the day &
Organising the registration lists and running the race management software to prepare the results
Ideally we would like about 4 people who know how to run the timing equipment on the day. It's not difficult but it would help if you are comfortable using computers for things such as emailing, word processing. The plan is to run a training session before the next race. Should only take about 30 min.
It would be good to have two people who know how to prepare the entrant lists and run the race management software. This typically takes about 2 hours before the race and 3-4 hours after. The software used is Excel and Race Director (www.theracedirector.com). Reasonable knowledge of Excel is required. The plan here is to prepare some manuals and then go through the process. Thjs will take a few hours.
If you are interested please contact Rob Danaher: 0408 495 605, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
29 Mar 2011 - Expression of Interest for Club Sponsorship
As our 2010/2011 season is drawing to a close I am writing to advise you that all of our sponsorship opportunities are now open and invite you submit a proposal for the upcoming season.
We have had a constant demand of sponsorship offers and as a result are enabling everyone to have the opportunity to submit a proposal to our club for sponsorship.
Our club has continued to grow, and the success of the club is demonstrated at many levels including the fact that our monthly races have been consistently sold out and filled to capacity. Our members spread far and wide across the Western Suburbs and beyond, attracting people from country Victoria, and the wider Melbourne community.
Our triathlon club is a racing club with its primary purpose being to develop and foster the sport of triathlon. We have operated for over 25 years and are currently the only club in Victoria that runs monthly races. We have now consolidated 2 kids races a year which have been hugely successful, and an important part of promoting triathlon to our children as part of a healthy and active lifestyle. It is an exciting phase for the club and we are looking at additional activities to accommodate the needs of our members.
Our website is an important communication tool that we use to promote our sponsors and maintain links and information to our members.
Our next committee meeting will be held on 11th April 2011. At this meeting we will be finalizing our sponsorship deals for the 2011/2012 year. We would like to invite you to submit your proposal to us prior to that meeting for our consideration.
Thank you and then look forward to working with you in the future as a sponsor or a supporter of WSTC.
Kind Regards,
Gina McVicar
WSTC Sponsorship.

25 Aug 2010 - Kids Race Sub-committee.
WSTC needs volunteers for a sub-committee organising the Kids' Race
A Duathlon for Kids will be held at Altona on Sunday October 24. It follows the very successful Duathlons and Triathlons that the club has previously organised and will have a similar format. We need help to organise it. There is quite a bit to do to organise, advertise and run the event so we are looking for people to contribute ideas and labour. It will require attendance at some evening meetings and helping to get things done. It's not a huge commitment but it's not trivial either. The satisfaction at the end of the event is immense.
If you can help please or need more details pleas contact Noel McMahon

12 Aug 2010 - Important Information
Regarding the use of the club room facilities
.
Dear Club members,
************ Important Information regarding the use of the club room facilities ************
Whilst it is very pleasing to see the steady growth in numbers at our Tuesday and Thursday spin classes, the increased patronage, combined with some changes to the alarm system have brought about some new problems that we must deal with as a matter of urgency.
The alarm codes have recently changed and so has the way the codes are entered. No more sirens – it is now a silent alarm – so it is not all that obvious when it is active
It is, however, monitored by both the council and a security company - An active alarm prompts a security patrol and the cost to the council is, I understand, $500 per call-out!
There have been a number of false alarms already as a result of our evening training sessions and we really must ensure that there are no more!
To that end I ask you all please do not enter the club facility unless you are specifically let in by one of the following people:
Robert Danaher
Gina McVicar
Noel McMahon
Jeff Bunting
Joe Korpett
Peter Whyte
Bill Sinclair
Vinny Turcinovich
Even if the door is unlocked you must not enter the facility without being totally sure that one of the above has disabled the alarm system. Don’t assume that alarm has been disabled. Note that the best way to determine if the alarm is on is by the status of the red lights on the alarm panel and generally by a continuous beeping sound.
If you have any doubts or you think there may be an alarm issue please call one of the following people as soon as possible
Robert Danaher 0408495605
Noel McMahon 0411239192
Peter Whyte 0418334800
Kevin Choate 0414 500 982
I am sorry if this all sounds a bit serious, but we simply cannot afford to cause any more false alarms, and the council are understandably quite concerned about this.
Yours sincerely
Peter Whyte

The Winter Solstice swim is on again
Williamstown Beach, Sunday 20/06/2010. 9.00am
Given that the solstice actually falls on a Monday (21/06/2010 – 9.28 pm)
we are looking at the "Solstice Eve" on the Sunday morning.
Budgies and swim cap (of any type) the only allowable garments and, might I
add, splashing your mates on the walk out with icy cold water is completely
unacceptable behavior and may cause the officials to issue a DQ or even a
TKO!
People have asked on this forum "Can you learn to endure pain?" Well, if
you can't, don't bother showing up - this is pain with a capital "P" - suck
it up!!
Location: Williamstown Beach, Sunday 20/06/2010. 9.00am
Distance: Either - short course - first bouy and back (approx 50m) or long
course - circuit of both buoys (approx 200m) The long course event may be
cancelled in favour ot the short course during the event by mutual consent
of all particpants upon reaching the first buoy - as was the case last year!
Note: Mandatory race debriefing Cafe Cirino, The Strand circa 9.45 am.

01 Mar 2010 - Robyn McGeary Australian Half Ironman Series Winner
2009/10
Robyn McGeary is the Australian Half Ironman Series Winner for her age 2009/10. Arguably, one of the most consistent and successful long course athletes the club has ever had. Robyn would be the best Ironman athlete for her age in the whole country, all whilst studying for her nursing qualifications. With the club’s Ironman info night running tonight, it’s good to know that great knowledge can be tapped within the club.
You’re a champ Red Robin!
[Thanks to Greer for this update]
From IMG
2009/10 Australian Half Ironman Series Champions from Ken Baggs, Series Co-ordinator
Well, another season over and another great success! A big thank you to all those who supported the Series, and special congratulations to all individual race winners. The competition continues to get stronger every year, so it's a great achievement to come out on top of your category.
Open Division
What a tussle with the females! Lisa Marangon was our #1 Series supporter, completing all seven races, but she ended up sharing the Championship honours with Carrie Lester as a result of the bonus points on offer at Ironman 70.3 Geelong. Lester finished just 17 seconds ahead of Marangon in a thrilling end to the Series. With a staggering 742 points for the season, Marangon will still take home a special trophy as our overall points winner.
There was also great support from many of the male professional athletes, with Matty White and Tim Berkel sharing overall honours.
Age Group Divisions
Congratulations to all age group Half Ironman Series Champions; some snuck in by as little as one point! Full series points are available at http://www.halfironmanseries.com.au.
